Midwives shortage

Stats still show that there is a shortage of midwives in the UK and in most European countries.
This topic has been a hot point for some times in the United Kingdom but the shortage is still there and nothing seems to have been done to counter that. Some organisms believe that this shortage is in a way dangerous as it puts at risk women giving birth.

The reasons for this shortage are different for each European country but in the UK, the main reasons seem to be clear.
It first seems that the resources allocated by the NHS over the past ten years haven’t been as good as they have been to other medical jobs. On top of that, it seems that midwives would prefer not to work for the NHS because of the rates given. It seems that agencies pay much better!
The other problem is that the birth rate has increased more or less depending on the area while the number of midwives hasn’t.

To add to these issues, it seems that students don’t want to follow that path and prefer to choose other medical sectors. It seems that the number of medical graduates going for obstetrics has dropped by around 50 percents in around ten years which is simply terrible.
